Get Cheap Car Insurance
Get cheap car insurance is on all of our "to do" lists. To insure your vehicle, even when cheap, can be a big monthly bill. We often feel like we are paying too much, and it's hard to know exactly what it should cost. Even when we compare notes with friends and family, car policy rates are so dependent on your personal data and driving history, it makes comparisons difficult.
To get cheap car insurance, one of the easiest things you can do is compare policies using our convenient quote request form at the top of this page. This will allow you to compare quotes from local agents, and you can see for yourself if you are paying too much for your automobile policy.
What Affects Costs
There are several factors when you get cheap car insurance that will change the price. Some types of coverage are required by state laws. Understanding these will make it easier for you to reduce your costs on cheap motor car insurance.
Bodily injury liability is insurance coverage that protects you against being held liable for physical injury to others when you are at-fault for the accident. This is an area of significant financial liability because of rising medical costs. Bodily injury coverage is required in most states, and this is one place where you want to have as high of coverage as you can afford. What most states require as dollar limits will not protect you fully. Only reduce this amount of coverage if you are unable to make your current payment, not if you are just trying to save money.
When you get cheap car insurance, Property Damage Liability goes hand-in-hand with Bodily Injury Liability. For Property Damage Liability you are protected against damage liability on someone else's property. Again, this coverage is required by most states. You will see this and the Bodily Injury Liability policy communicated on your statement as numbers separated by slashes, which communicates the amount you are covered for. Again, try not to scrimp on this category. The average price of a car on the road is right around $15,000. If you get cheap car insurance property damage liability at only $10,000 you are still financial responsible for the remaining $5,000.
Collision Insurance covers damage to your own vehicle. Although collision is not required by any state laws, if you have a new car, and are still making payments, your loan company or bank will most likely have you get this coverage. If you get cheap auto insurance and have an older cheap auto, this policy may not be worth the cost. In any case, if you are trying to save money, this might be an area where you can reduce the cost of your by increasing your deduction amount.
Comprehensive is similar to collision, because it also protects only your own vehicle. It applies when damages occur outside of an accident. An example would be hail damage, vandalism, or when you get your automobile stolen. Just like collision insurance, it may be required by your loan company if you are still paying off your car though it is not required by state law. It is good to get cheap vehicle insurance of this type if you live in high car theft areas. Like with collision, you can get money in your pocket here by increasing your deduction amount. For example if you currently have a $100 deductable, consider increasing that to $250 or $500 for a savings of a couple hundred dollars a year.
Under-insured and Uninsured Motorist Coverage is required in many states. It covers you when you are involved in a collision that was not your fault, but the other driver was uninsured or under-insured. This coverage is packaged differently in different areas, but can cover both your medical and property damage losses for this type of incident.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) covers your own medical and hospital expenses in case of an accident. Get cheap automobile insurance of this type if you are not currently covered under a health plan. However, if you are covered, health-wise, then you probably don't need PIP. Unfortunately, it is not available in every state.
Rental coverage will pay for car rental costs if your primary vehicle (the one that is insured) is not operational due to an accident. If you rely on your car for travel or don't have a second vehicle, you may want to take the costs for this relatively cheap policy and verify if it is worth it for you in your particular case.
Get cheap car insurance towing coverage which will reimburse you for towing costs if your car breaks down. If you have an older car, or if you are paying for roadside assistance already, you may want to see if this is cost effective for your situation.
