Auto and General Insurance
Auto and general insurance is a part of everyday life that most people do not even notice. Most of the time the only time people think about their insurance company, even if it's one of the top 10, is when they pay for their premium every month. If you are a person that does not get into accidents on a regular basis, then you may think that you auto coverage is only good for taking your money every month. However, if you were to ever need your auto and general insurance, then you would be very glad that you had it. You may not know what exactly your policy does, but there are a few general things that will be covered for you if you were to ever get into an accident.
If you are one of these people that only see insurance as an added expense, then you should research the different things that would be covered from your policy. If you do research you policy, you will see that your auto and general insurance are more important that you think. Although you will have a better knowledge of what kind of coverage you have, most drivers have a few general types that are the most common. There are three in particular that most people will have on the auto policies. Once you know what these things cover, you will know what you will be financially protected from in the event of an auto accident.
General Types
The first type of coverage that is normal to be on an auto and general insurance policy is called comprehensive. If you have a loan out on your vehicle, then you will more than likely have this kind of coverage because many banks will require you to have it while your vehicle has a lien out on it. Comprehensive coverage is going to take care of a general range of things called acts of nature. Something like if your auto were to be outside in the middle of a hail storm would be something that you would not have planned to have happen. Your comprehensive coverage will be the portion of your auto and general insurance policy that will take care to get the dents on your car left by the hail fixed. A more likely thing that comprehensive coverage will cover is if you were to have damage done to your car by hitting an animal like a deer.
If you have a general auto policy, you will likely have collision coverage in your vehicle as well. Collision is going to be helpful to you if your car gets damaged by hitting something like another vehicle or some other kind of public property like a park bench. If you do not have collision coverage on your auto and general insurance policy, then you will have to fit the whole bill to get the damages fixed if the accident is at-fault. However, there may be one reason that you do not have collision coverage on your car and that would be if you have a car that is not worth much money. Since your collision insurance will only pay for to fix damages done that are up to the value of your vehicle, you may not need to have collision coverage on your auto and general insurance policy.
You will also have liability insurance as part of your insurance. In most states, having liability coverage is required by law because it is going to protect all of the other people and property on the road. Your liability coverage is also highly advantageous for you to have in the event of an auto accident that is at-fault. If you are the cause of an accident, the liability is going to help you pay for the expenses to fix the other property in the accident. Things like the vehicle that you hit as well anything that is considered collateral damage would be covered by liability. You would also be required to pay for any medical expenses that the other people in the accident would have.
Car Insurance in Short
Although there are many other things that you may have on your auto and general insurance plan, these three kinds are the normal types that you will find on a general policy for more drivers. If you are unaware what types of coverage you have on your policy, then you should contact your coverage agent to find out what you have. Then you can research the particular things that you have covered, so that you do not feel like you are dropping your money down that drain. Having auto and general insurance is like having a security system on your home. You will never know that the alarm is there until someone tries to break in your house, and then you are glad that you had it.
